The Oktoberfest in Munich (also known as the Munich Oktoberfest) is one of the largest folk festivals in the world. It takes place in 1810 on the Theresienwiese in Munich and is visited by some six million people every year. For the Oktoberfest, Munich breweries BREW a special beer (Oktoberfest Märzen) with more original Wort and hence higher alcohol content (around 6-7%).

Historic rides, marquees, and other historical attractions, such as a Steckerlfischbraterei, a Whirligig, or a candy floss stand, were presented on 5 acres in a fenced area. The specially brewed beer of the Oktoberfest, more and more young people and adults in the middle ages are moving to Bavaria. The Austrian people visited the Festival under the motto: “the leather pants Undresses the Bavaria”, which, however, is in conjunction with alcohol and football. Most visitors appear in traditional Costumes – lederhosen for men and for women’s Dirndl.

1. 6 million people attend this Carnival, so seats are usually scarce. If you want a seat, you should reserve it at least one year in advance.
2. Those who have reserved a seat and still want a seat must get up early. Most people arrive at 5 A.m. in front of the tents, although they only open at 09:00. It takes exactly 2 minutes and 35 seconds, and then all the seats are occupied.
3. Never ask for a small beer! There are no small beers here, so the waitresses would simply ignore you.
4. The large beer tents close already around 23: 00 and the “last round” must be ordered before 22:30. In the “Hofbräu – tent” it’s “Hey Jude” by the Beatles, in the “shooting tent”-“Wweilst a heart did, wia a mine” by Reinhard Fendrich.  You need to pay good attention; otherwise, you won’t get alcohol to your fill.
5. The Maß beer costs between 8.70 and 9.20 EUR – do not be so frustrated, for Chicken and thrill rides would also be taken into account. Be sure to split your money here and there, so you don’t lose it all at once in case of some thieving incident.
6. Avoid the first weekend! Because the rush is always too much.
7. The online auction House on eBay always offers all kinds of tables, reservations, and beer brands for sale two to three months before the October festival, so you can save money, time, and stress.

How to get to the Oktoberfest in Munich

Recommendation: Arrival by train

Travelling by train is every year a huge experience. On the train, you can make many acquaintances and have lots of fun before even arriving at the festival. Whether loud music or absurd jokes or just chat, you will get it all on the train.

Tickets cost €29 (through ticket machines and via the Internet) throughout Bavaria in all regional trains of the Deutsche Bahn – RB, RE, IRE – and other railways such as BOB, Vogt railway, BRB, KVG, RGB and VGB in 2nd class. That “Bayern-ticket-single” is valid for one person and costs €21 at the ticket machine and via the Internet. Both tickets entitle to ride with all means of transport (S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram and bus) in the MVV network.

Arrival by car

A car journey is not recommended. During the Oktoberfest, there is very little parking space in Munich, and parking prices skyrocket. If you can find a parking space in a parking garage (which is very rare) you pay a Tagesgebür of nearly €40.
Tip: When choosing a hotel near the Munich meadows, ensure it has on-site parking. Although the fees required are usually significantly cheaper than in parking garages…
